Sahara Desert "Because of SVPT, I was able to ride a camel in the Sahara Desert! Not many people can claim that kind of Success. In April, while on a night tour of Washington DC monuments, I missed a curb behind the White House, went splat, and broke my shoulder in two places. Although in terrible pain, I didn't think it was broken so I continued to tour for six more days. South Valley had helped me heal twice before (another broken shoulder and knee surgery). When my doctor confirmed the Fracture, I immediately called the office of my favorite physical therapist, Tom Sawhill. I had two trips planned, which I did have to cancel, and a family trip to Morocco with my husband, daughter, son-in-law and two teenage grandsons in June. I announced, "If I can't go, you can't go!" I didn't want to disappoint them so I was very motivated to heal. My doctor thought I'd be up for the trip but said "No camel rides!" However, after less than two months of therapy, not only did I travel without pain, but I also easily managed to control my camel. Tom cleared me to ride but with the warning, "Just don't fall off!"

Crabtree trailhead "We departed on the morning of June 28th and arrived at the Crabtree trailhead on Emigrant Wilderness. Our first day we covered 7.75 miles ending in a net climb of 1385 feet to Piute Lake for the night. Day two was 5.85 miles with a net climb of 1100 feet ending at Long Lake. I celebrated my 71st birthday that morning with a candle in my re-hydrated oatmeal! Day three was 9 miles and a net climb of 800 feet reaching an altitude 9070 feet and a stop at Emigrant Lake. Day four was 9.1 miles with a net climb of only 300 feet, and ending at an altitude of 7860. Day five was a 7.4 miles and a net ascent of 1100 feet ending at Wood Lake. The final leg was 11.3 miles with a net ascent of 530 feet and ending at the Crabtree Trailhead. Dropping from 8315 to 7145 to end our hike on July 3rd. this was done almost exactly 11 months from the date of my total knee replacement and 6 months after an extensive rehabilitation program at SVPT." Reed was able to achieve this amazing 50 mile hike while carrying a 45 pound backpack with bear canister and a week's supple of dehydrated food."

"I never got around thanking all of you who helped me in my recovery with my arm and neck. I am so happy to say that I am as good as before! I really amazed because I believed the damage was set and I would never have full use again. The trip for 3 weeks helped since I got to relax and I did all my exercises to keep strong and flexible. I am so grateful for all you have done for me."

"I would like to take this opportunity to, once again, thank you and your staff for your knowledge and help in rehabilitating my shoulder back to pre surgery condition. I will be sure to refer anyone I know that requires competent and a knowledgeable physical therapist. Hopefully, this will exclude me again, but I would definitely return if the need should ever arise."
